new lifters didn't fix it. swapped push rods form side to side and rockers side to side sound still there. can a oil pump make this sound? i t gets worse under load. i pull the coil pack wires one at a time and it doesn't change a thing.

Sounds like that dreaded piston slap that alot of higher milage 5.3 l engines have. Chevy says its carbon deposits on top of the piston, but I'm not stupid. I tore one down and mic'd the pistons and 1 piston was a smaller diameter than the rest. Replaced the piston, and 65000 miles later no noises. I hope for your sake its not that!!

you don't work much with ls1's do you? you have to remove the heads to get to the lifters. and the bolts are torque to yield stock. not sure what was ran through it the first 60,000 miles of its life but its had royal purple 5w30 ever since i've owned it.

are you running conv. oil, cause with a turbo that can cause the oil to break down and give you those black deposits. if ur running syn then nevermind.
