il agree with you on that but its there to make it silent, so theres not that much noise in the cabin most people dont like the engine noise.. i doubt it will restrict the performance that much being BMW they wouldnt do that

It makes me laugh at how many "trick" things they put on this engine, then hook it to the most restrictive exhaust I have EVER seen.....but I bet its quiet, just like BMW likes it ---
