i was just never impressed with the 305. raced a few f-bodies with the 305 in it and minor bolt ons I/H/E MSD ignition...etc... (it was close until mid 2nd gear then i just pulled away. and i drive a 2.2L 4banger) but i will believe once u get into head work and cams they will be beefed up some, but i still dont like the 305. maybe if the kids i raced didnt make the 305 out to be a god sent motor bc it was a v8 and i have a 4cyl.

the original small block had a 3.75 bore,then 3.875,and then 4.00........the valevtrain on all is the same

I just spun a rod bearing on my victor jr headed 355 solid roller cam 500hp so i get this free 305 L69 190hp just to move the car around til i got my new 383.with the new intake and carb headers it now should make 210-220 hp pretty ipressive fealing in the car!!

I'll back up the fact that they last long, 231k miles on ours, only problem was a leaking valve cover gasket, and the fact that its really dirty.

The 305 is nowhere near the motor the 350 is. It has to do with the fact that the small block's valvetrain geometry was designed for a cylinder bore that is bigger than the 305's 3.736inch bore. You can get big valves in a 305 head, but then they're shrouded by the cylinder wall. You need a 4 inch bore or bigger if you want a small block that really rips.

305's are pretty good for torque and they last quite a while... if you bumped up the compression and used the right cam and intake combination, you could have a pretty damn snappy motor, especially for its size. but if you want somethin pretty serious, a 305 is not the best choice.

throw a 350 in there instead. 305 is horrible. IMO
