volvo 242 is the most ogly volvo ever.

Its not "baratone", its "Bertone". Bertone also did Italian supercars. The bertones were the more luxurious of the Volvos but motor-wise they were nothing special. The 242GT wasn't really a beast, it was quick for its time, but they never sold a turbo version of it. The owner of the car in the video (The 1975 242) got rid of the 8 valve motor and a 16 valve went in. Search on this site for "old skool volvo" if you really want to see some crazy Swedish iron.

The Scandinavians have been turboing the volvo's to the hilt for ages. The 240 is a very light car, it weighs in @ 1200kg's. A GTO / Monaro weighs ab out 1780kg's... If you rip all the interior panels and insulation out of t he 242 you can get it down to about 1060kg's!.
But you gotta admit tha t there is nothing better seeing a boi racers face when you beat him in a old volvo, it really kills their ego! :) Go Sweden!
