The point is, I do not feel like spending more than one grand on a new transmission and I don't have the money to rebuild one. So, I will do it the right way. Anyways I don't race. My mustang will be taken away from me and my license. I don't want that.

When the aod comes out of second gear so fast the rpms are low wich means further away from the power band once you hit third ... if you manually run second out to redline , wich the aod does not do in "D" you are banhg right where you need to be in thrid gear .....Ive ran many many aod's and blown up more of them then I can count .... If that book said he got the same times by letting it shift out of second automatically then they obviously havent driven many mustangs

I looked at an article, called Green Machine II. It's about an AOD 1992 LX 5.0 running quarter miles. He tried running in regular drive and by shifting it manually 1-D-1. Both of them had the same quarter mile times. It really doesn't make a difference. What will make a difference is a 2500 RPM stall converter, which is good for stock and mildly modified 5.0's. Stock converter is a 1800 RPM stall converter. So when you take off, it doesn't get to the sweet spot of the 5.0 engine powerband. That's probably why AOD's feel so sluggish.

yep but dont worry about holding second ruining your trans , cuzz it doesnt , thats the factory inteneded way to make it run out second , it doesnt do anything that hurts the trans .... go look into it and you can read why

Thats pretty much what I mentioned before. The car will be worth a lot more if it's not being abused. Once you restore them, they gain a lot of value. That's what I'm doing with mine. It's the last year of the fox body. I will hook the engine and the transmission up a bit, but not race it.
