I work on cars every day, I have quite a few V-tec's and non-V-tecs. Not to mention I own a SOHC Vtec turbo. Carpo couldn't be more right. There is a Vtec solenoid bolted to the head that blocks flow of oil. When your engine hit's say,,,5500RPM, your ecu then sends voltage to that solenoid which then opens up and allows oil pressure to the 3rd "rocker set". The rocker set then moves over to the 3rd cam lobe quickly, which is when you hear your intake start roaring. Yes you can feel it "kick in" if you will....turns on.....whatever you want to call it. Either way it "turns on" so quickly that I feel a lot more power, especially at 12lbs of BOOST!

verticlesmile....carpo knows what he's talkin about, you don't. please go look up your s h i t before you put anymore comments about vtec on streetfire. VTEC pretty much depends on oil and oil pressure. i have a SOHC VTEC, my cousin has a SOHC VTEC. after a cold air intake and an exaust, not only can you hear the VTEC engauge, but yes...you can also feel it. so don't come on here with the bs about not bein able to feel vtec not engauging in a SOHC. no its nothing like a DOHC VTEC enguaging but you deffinatly can feel it. and jus for the record, i've seen plenty of VTECs RAPE SVT and SRT's, no need to dream on.

no verticlesmile, honda will never stoop to the mullet loving rednecks of "SVT" and "SRT" so i would never wish or "dream" for that

it doesnt kick in, but there is a point at which it engages...oil pressure sends a message that kicks in the third lobe on the cams which lifts it open more thats all

Why do all the Honda fans act like "VTEC" is some kind of Power band? "When that VTEC kicks in...or ...then my VTEC takes over..." Nubes. It's just about Valve Lift and the ECU controlling lift for EFFICIENCY. The SOHC VTEC is only in the Intake valves. You can't HEAR it and it doesn't 'kick' in. It's a constant control of lift. Japan has heavier Taxes for more displacement, so they try and get the most w/ less. That's all. VTEC is NOT like SVT or SRT, sorry. Dream on.

how are you to tell me that my facts aren't right? i hate it when people like you get on streetfire and comment on videos saying hey that's not right and to say this is how it's suppose to be. well screw you. were you there, do you know the owners of the car? i don't care what your experience was with your car against others. this is what happened. how is he "suppose" to get the jump when his car weighs 300lbs more and when the integra was at the vtec change over point. why don't you go watch some more videos and see how cars with more torque don't get the jump on cars with less torque. especially if it's a honda with vtec and forced induction.
