the stage thing is for a couple of reasons one so mopar can make alot of money off of people and two its easy bolt on things that can be warrentied if its ok with the dealer

if it's an '03, then it's the ECU plus larger injectors, but if it's later than an '03, then it's just the ECU since the better injectors came stock on later years.

What is stage 1 anyway? chip?
