Affordable EVs can definitely be made, it's just manufacturers aren't serious about them, they are too occupied with their hydrogen cars. But at least GM is coming out with the Volt PHEV (~$35k), which is an EV for 40 miles. Mitsubishi has their iMIEV, Subaru has their R1e, both coming out 2010 at around $25k (though both expected be fairly low volume at least in the US market). Nissan said they are also planning an EV for the US market. That's fairly affordable for an EV w/ the more advanced li-ion batteries.

is everybody that misinformed? do you guys know how much energy is used and pollution is created to make batteries? they are the sole reason hybrids and electric cars are so expensive. this would solve nothing. do some research. that is why this technology has gone nowhere. they could have made a car like this a long time ago. just couldn't afford the batteries till now.

when you are paying 6 dollars a gallon and waiting in line to buy gas Ill be driving by in an electric vehicle with my stereo blasting the V8 noise for you. An electric car is beating up ICE cars in motor crosses in a modified division that hasnt been won by an electric car since 1896!
