Civichatch...not only is VTEC used for better fuel mileage, it also allows to switch between cams to allow for more low end torque, then switches over as torque drops off and horsepower takes over.CanhasCheezbutt...LS motor is built just fine from the factory, you will have NO problems just throwing a VTEC head on, I've done many LS/VTEC swaps with no problems at all.Harley150, you need to do get your facts straight. If VTEC was on all the time, you would have VERY bad low end torque. Which is why some cams are designed for off the line torque, and some are high rpm horsepower. Same with butterfly intakes, two intakes, but only one is used at low RPM and the butterfly opens in higher RPM when the air flow is needed... Ford 3.8L, SHO 3.0L, Subaru 2.0/2.5, and some Honda/Acura have butterfly valves...Learn...THEN speak

an LS motor is not balanced to rev high and must be built before you can simply throw a VTEC head on there.

an LS motor is just a different casting. it provides more tqe on the low end because of the stroke of the engine. its a very popular turbo swap motor because of that. more stroke u get the more air and fuel u can get in the cumbustion chamber the more down force u get on the piston when the motor is on its powerstroke.

it all seems like a bunch of rednecks and some rich people who dont know what there talking about in one of my HIGH SCHOOL ARGUMENTS. But i will say there is plenty of CORRECT information in these commentary but im sorry , most of it sounds like a bunch of b*******.The main thing VTEC does is save gas at LOWER RPM( because seriously who drives at 6,000 RPM range and hold it there for any extended period of timeand expect good mpg ) and gives BETTER performance when you play around, and yes i said BETTER PERFORMANCE because what do you do when you want to increase power ,you ADD MORE FUEL AND AIR. The thing about the S2000 is it has the MOST HORSE POWER PER LITER THAN ANY OTHER MASSPRODUCTION VEHICLE . and the motor is the F22 2.2L fuel injected 4cyl and w/o the emmisions restrictives it makes 245hp at 111.37hp perliter w/o the help of FORCED INDUCTION . Im not just saying this because i own a honda but because i LOVE cars, and any kind 4cyl or 12cyl. HONDA did have VTEC for many years until the K-SERIES came out and then it became I- VTEC which stands for Intelligent VTEC which not only has the ability to open the valves even futher it can advance or rata rd the timing of the motor pending on engine load and etc. if any other poeple have a problem with what i said ........i dont CARE and i have plenty of more information so just ask.

You guys do know what VTEC is for right, fuel efficientcy not power, if you put the single larger cam there all the time you would make more power through the whole power band not just 4500 rmps and up but loose gas mileage. All VTEC does is SLOW DOWN a motor untill a certain RMP not speed it up think about it................
