"Friends" you have absolutetly no idea what you are talking about. Turbochargers, COMPRESS AIR. It is due to this compression, that heat is introduced into the air. Heat reduces the DENISTY of the air. Intercoolers reduce the overall temprature of the air, therebye increasing the DENSITY of the incoming charge.
It doesn't take an Einstien to understand this.
ALSO TURBOS DO NOT INCREASE DISPLACEMENT!!!!!!!!!!!

There is a replacement for displacement: Foreign Engineering.
Formula 1 carts are the most advanced racing vehicles in history. Yet they are all small displacement, with a massive capacity for revs.
And don't try to bring dragsters into the mix. Drag racing is a sport that is enjoyed almost exclusively by us Americans. To that degree, its a one sided challenge. No else is playing against us.
Don't get me wrong. I love my V8s, but I sure do love my revs as well.

Oh boy half you people have NO idea what your talking about at all. The Vip er is from RSI in Texas and is a low NON TURBO 9 sec car. The Titan Supra is an all out drag car. I expected the supra to win after all that's gone into it. Actually a lot of the owners of low 8 sec street Vipers don't lik e to drive them.. why I have no idea maybe their scarred of the power. Hen nessey is not the only one doing TT Vipers, there's CPE, Heffner, UGR and now RSI. Again THIS Viper is Not a turbo car, but of course the supra is a big turbo car running all out. Oh one more thing ALL the low 8 sec and 7 sec Vipers are ALL street legal IRS cars, not one of them is a solid rear gutted out drag machine like the supra's and others that run similar times to the Vipers. IF that was the case, built TT Vipers would be in the 6's easy.

*On the street the vast majority of time they will have lower piston speeds because the vast majority of time they are at just the same rpm as a larger engine.

Also consider why ALL the engines in production and in racing with the best power to weight ratios are high rev: RST V8, F1 engines, Super Sport bike engines, and so on, there does not have to be heavy ass components supporting a huge amount of torque.

I've never seen a max rpm rating on a crank, only hp. All I'm saying is which will break things (maybe not the crank) first if you're trying to get more hp from an engine? Revs or torque? Things give MUCH faster when your putting huge amounts of direct force on them. Though that probably depends on the engine, I'm sure the Viper would have a huge amount of difficulty revving higher because it has so much rotating mass, but then that's what I was saying before. It has to put direct force on its components rather than just have a bit of swinging mass like the Supra engine which has less moving mass.

There's more than a few things wrong in your post. But the most important thing you're forgetting is that small displacement engines have shorter strokes, and many have lower piston speeds, which means less friction and less stress. On the street the vast majority of time they will have lower piston speeds because the vast majority of time they are at just the same speeds as a larger engine. In racing a Nascar engine at 9000 rpm will have about the same piston speeds as an F1 at 19000 rpm, and probably much greater swept area (the area the rings pass over at a given power output) so they produce more friction, that's why F1 engines last two race weekends while Nascar engines only last one. Also who cares about configuration? Performance is all that matters and on the streets there are more than a few 4 bangers that own V8s, I don't care how much you want to deny it.
