this is the slk55 AMG right??.........plus it sounds great

I had reservations about the auto before I bought the 55 but those went away after learning to drive it at the track. The full manual mode makes no unauthorized shifts except for downshifting when you drop below 1500 in any gear. Other than that, it's full manual, even when sitting on the rev limiter it stays locked in gear. I now prefer it to a manual trans.
