he should have used a tig welder at a higher temp i reckon to get enough coverage to seal the crack

There is something evil about that spot on a 350... inside or out in that area. The one in vid makes the fourth I have seen (2 were my own)...and it is on the other end of the country.Even the main bearing journal in that area. I wonder if it was the build mold once upon a generation. Leave it 1970s compression and they lasted a bit longer. go get a new block, this one is done. New gen something from goodwrench or whatever. Don't get the old.

John Edwards discusses a 350 SBC 1/4 mile dirt track engine that was brought in to Costa Mesa R&D to check for a leak after the block was stick welded with nickel rod. The block failed to hold pressure when connected to the pressure tester. Pressure testing is a form of non-destructive testing (NDT).
