DaimlerChrysler's Street and Racing Technology (SRT) division got the green light to design the SRT-4 in 2001. When the 2003 SRT-4s hit the showroom, the factory rated the engine at 215 flywheel horsepower. Shortly after the vehicles introduction, many chassis dynos found the factory figures to be "underated" as 210 to 215 horsepower was usually realized at the wheels (indicating in excess of 245-to-250 horsepower at the flywheel). The combination of significant horsepower and an open differential in the transmission made getting all of the power to the ground a challenge with the 2003 SRT-4. Fortunately, the 2004 models solved the problem and delivered even more power. Rated at 230 horsepower, the 2004 and 2005 models benefited from larger fuel injectors and a reprogrammed ECU. The 2003 models had to limit high-rpm boost output as injector duty cycles were maxed and lean air-fuel ratios would have resulted if the boost wasn't rolled off. The larger injectors allowed 2004 and 2005 models to produce 220 to 230 horsepower at the wheels (260 to 270 at the flywheel). Best of all, this power was now more controllable as the factory equipped the SRT-4 with a Quaife torque-sensing, gear-type, limited-slip differential. This LSD split the power equally to both front drive wheels and, with its additional power, allowed the 2004 and 2005 SRT-4s to cut the 0-to-60 times by three-tenths of a second.........any more questions, comments
