It's a system they us to make the turbo spool faster. It works kind of like the V-tec system that Honda employs. All of the WRC cars are running with it now I think.

It makes more power due to the reciprocal motion of the camshaft. In a normal I-4, all four pistons have to fight gravity to start with....the boxer doesn't, since the pistons come out sideways. It's true about the transmission. The transmission issue was somewhat fixed in 2004, and since 2006 is completely gone. The thing I love the best about the Boxer engine is the torque band. Even-though it doesn't have as much power, the torque band is similar to a V8. Unlike many Hondas and some Toyotas, there is not a huge drop off between the cars whp and torque going to the ground. And the best part is....when it's modified it still stays the same.....Unlike many Honda upgrades that'll give you 15 whp and only 5 ft/lbs of torque.

Yeah... Nothing special about the boxer motor... That's why Porsche has been using it since the DAWN OF MAN! + The boxer (H) layout doesnt need balancing shafts & it offers a lower center of gravity.

ooWRCoo drives a '02 WRX. Wow!... a whopping 227 hp stock, how pathetic is that for the price? Top it off with the performance worlds worst and I mean absolutely worst transmission!...they suck and blow out at only 5-thousand miles. Don't even think to mod that car without first doing some serious tranny upgrades. Also their abs system engages prematurely, gonna' need new brakes at only 12k miles, the ac condenser will fail every 2-yrs and the drivers side power window motor has to be replaced often...that's some piece of quality you drive there! LOL!

My guess he's been smoked by so many stock SRT-4's he's got a bit of an identity crisis going on. He feels he paid way too much for a piece of s**t Subaru. Yeah the new STI's are pretty sweet but an older WRX ...PUHLEEEEEEEEZE!

though if you took of the turbo that little S2k motor would generate more power... the flat four is really meh. it doesnt hold up like a honda motor, and i dont see its advantage over a more simple inline 4 DOHC. the evo puts out very similar power with a more traditional engine style so whats the big deal about the flat? as ive been informed you have to build the internals on a STI at around 350-375hp. turbo/supercharged s2ks do that without blowing motors all the time. dont get me wrong, i really like the sti but i dont think its a fricken unstoppable beast like many seem to think. in the grand scheme of things the STI is a nice car but not a ferrari like some of these suby fans make it out to be.
