first off look at ryan woon and codys supras. they are running the stock trans with the fully stock rearend and they make 8.40sec passes all day and hardly break a thing so dont tell me that a supra is not built better than a mustang.i dont see any 1000hp cobras with stock trans doing that......I wish a cobra would line next to me....it will take alot more then a pully, exhuast, and tune to bang with my supra

It really boils down to the motor and how much hp it could run. The mustang castings are stronger than the toyota castings. I have a friend who worked in a stress analysis lab and one of the things he did was cut engine blocks into little strips and pull them apart. The same size strips cut from a block out of a mustang gt were stronger than that of a supra turbo in line six. Also the v configuration is more compact and ridged for a given displacement and can handle more stress. The mustang motor is made even more ridged because it uses siamese boring which further shortens the block and the crankshaft. The in line six has the longest crank for it's displacement by placing all the cylinders in a row. The mustang block is actually a Y block. This means it's main caps are seated inside the crank case and cross bolted for added strength. The side skirts on the block are also post tensioned during assembly and the head bolts on the mustang motor are inches longer than the supra motor this further ties the engine together and adds strength and rigidity. If I wanted to build a motor for maximum hp I would start with the Mustang approach not the supra approach. That's why Panoz and Koenigsegg used Ford modular blocks to build there supercars, and why every NASCAR, F1, Indy, and top fuel drag car uses a v configured motor. You can make way more hp without blowing the thing up. If push really came to shove, you could make mustang go faster than a supra.

from what I know, the fastest streelegal supra ran a 8.47 on a six speed tranny.the same supra that holds the world record for the fastest street legal car on the standing mile.
