i think the new v8 rule blows the v10s sounded so much sexier they screamed out of corners and nobody has died scence senna so why should they change the rules the v8s killed it for me and it was nice when they let them use any configuration they wanted i think thats how it should be get the 4 6 8 10 and 12 cilinder cars back out there

That continue to do things to nerf the F1 cars. That's actually what caused the awful senna crash, since they had to make a huge compromise in the suspension work, due to a last minute regulation, if I remember correctly. But it encourages these F1 cars to still yet be tuned to the very edge! Turbo is an easy way to get power. Millions upon millions have to be put into N/A development.

This car is a Renault RE-30B and it raced in 1982. On this on board video Renault RE-30B was drive by Rene Arnoux. The other RE-30B was drive by Al ain Prost. This car have 600HP, F-1 cars with 1000hp raced during 1984 and 1987. Great on board video. Regards.

great video. one of my favs. notice how carefull he has to be with the thro ttle. but the time era is off. its not from 1976. that is rene arnoux dri ving and he didnt join renault untill either 79' or 80'. the horse power r ating is correct though. that is the re30b driven in the 82' season. i wou ld also like to add that f1 cars back then were faster than todays. i have read some post that say other wise. the renault re40 was rated at around 1300 to 1400hp. but f1 cars today are nothing to sniff at.

That may be true, but the older cars are faster on those tracks solely due to rule restrictions. The technology is there, the FIA just said, hey this is getting too fast, we need to put some limits on this. If some of these limits weren't imposed, I wouldn't be surprised to see an F1 car above 25 0 miles an hour on most tracks, especially at places like Spa and Montreal . Give these guys a few years to work with the V8's, and I wouldn't be sur prised to see 900 hp and lap times on par with the V10 cars at the fast tr acks.

Today's formula 1 cars use 2.4L V8s at around 750-800 hp (teams don't relea se that kind of info) @ 19,500-20,000 rpm. And around tight cornering tr acks they are the fastest they've ever been. Although, for tracks like In dy, Montreal, Spa etc. the cars back in 2004 were slightly faster. They w ere pushing about 1000 hp @ 18,000 rpm.

thats why they standardise the blowoff valves and give them out and collect them before and after each race

If they allowed turbos in F1, they would have to find some way to limit hor sepower. They are already insanely fast. Add a turbo and they will be al l over the place.

Splitface, You are on the right track. Today's cars (2.8liter V8 750 bhp) are a lot faster. They have better technology to get all the power to the pavement (mechanical grip) and FAR FAR better areodymanics. They may have had more power 30 year ago, but it was impossible to use it all e fficently. Think of it this way... This years cars are already runnin g the same lap times as last year's cars (V10, 3.0 liter, 900-950bhp). Th ey are down 150-200bhp. If you have billions to spend on a season, you w ill make up the lost time somewhere.
