Even if hp and torque drop, torque multiplication is still greater in the lower gear. Automatics are made to shift based on how you're driving, full throttle won't shift until near the redline, which is the optimum spot when you're trying to move quickly.

it's an auto Rob... like i said this car only has an intake and 150k+ miles. it still runs amazing and i've hardly had to replace any parts on it. It's beaten a few quick cars on the street (red light to red light racing), including a Tegra GSR, and a Pontiac GXP. it's the best sleeper car IMO.

I drive an 01 SL2, just a piece of advice...
Shift at 5600 rpm, both hp and tq drop rapidly after that point so staying in gear longer is pointless.

hey zeroOne, dont worry about what these pricks have to say. they probably have civics. i dont see why people have to bag on Saturns. they are the same thing as a civic, a cheap economy car that gets good mileage. everyone and there brother has a civic, everyone who has a civic thinks they are hot shit. as long as you like your SL2, who cares, SCREW THOSE CIVICS. sure they are fast but they are getting OLD. sorry for the length of this comment, im trying to stick up for ya buddy.

No It's a cheap piece of crap made of plastic. If you think it's fun to dri ve then you are probably a 16 year old punk who never drove anything else.
