Uhm, the Supra was not offered with a manual trans in 1996 because it was not crash tested? I don't think so.... it was because it didn't meet emissions, plain and simple.

your all are idiots, the reason they are not legal is because you cant get inssurance, and the reason you cant get inssurance is because they were never crash tested. but they are ways around that, either money to pay someone who has taken the time and money to buy i think its 5or so skylines and crash test them and everything. you can either buy them already registered for around 100,000 or around 50 and end up spending a little less by wasting tons of your own time, its not that they dont pass emisions.

The US and Canada have strict emissions laws, and the Skyline probably does not meet them. Even the Supra didn't come with a manual trans for one year because of emissions problems. Those high strung turbo motors are obviously not an ideal design for meeting emissions requirements. I bet there are long term reliability issues as well.

I think the R32 can be imported legally, or it could be at some point, but they don't pass emissions, so if you live in CA you need to make it pass CARB regs. The "main" excuse Nissan used was that because of the turbo piping and such, left-hand drive would be too hard to mass-produce without a redesign. Then again, I've seen custom lhd jobs on skylines, so idunno...I would like one as well, but not a GTR, I just think they're overrated, and they're not a RWD proper, so they're out in my book. And btw...the Infiniti G35 is the new Skyline, and if you didn'y know, the end of this yr or next, I cannot remember, we get a version of the GTR, albeit an absurdly expensive one, I've heard $60K+.:(
