Oh! Well the drew would certainly make a difference.
A few years ago, our track (which is fairly small and just a rented airstrip) used to just spray the track with VHT/ethanol mix. It worked fine for the p level of cars we'd see... somewhere between 600-800hp (13-high 9's).
This year a lot of people have shelled out some $$$$$ and made the jump to low nines, so our track prep needed some work because safety was starting to become an issue after seeing several cars go squirly all down the track. :S
After our track prep guy atteneded some larger events in Edmonton and Calgary AB, he picked up several tips and hints that made a world of difference. Things like running a drag bar over the VHT, using several of the NHRA's new products like Gold Dust, ect, ect...
I know of a sure fire way to fix your traction problems once and for all and it'll work on ANY track... trade me cars! :D

Well Red, you got most of it right... there is a lot of work involved in setting up a track for hi HP cars, but I forgot to mention this run took place @ 12am and the dew was setting in. So we all know what happens when there's moisture in the air and no heat (65*) will do to a track. Don't get me wrong the track was good at first, but turned bad towards the end of the night. Which you would get this result, that's ok after that run I packed up and left. lol

When done properly, there's actually a lot of prep work involved in setting up a track for high horse power runs... if its done properly of corse.
Its no where near as simple as tapping a barrle of vht and spraying it on. :|

I'll bet dollars to donutes that the sheen on that track isn't water... its VHT.
with "no prep to track" you wouldn't be nearly lifting the front tires off the line like that either.
