you can find a desent FD for around $17,000????
You can get a camaro and supercharge it and put heads and cams on it for about that much

509058- just cuz you can read the size of an engine off a magazine or off the internet doesn't make you as smart as you think... yes your motor size is a 1.3 and such but you still have the same amount of weight... if you really wanna get down to it look at the indy cars... they have like 2L v8s with weed eater size pistons and they are super fast so its possible to take our v8s down to yalls liters and still out preform yall

I got a custom ground cam from comp cams for 400, I got CNC ported LS6 vette heads WITH the HD dual springs and 5 angle valve job for 1050. Longtubes and y-pipe was 550, catback was 400.. I don't think things are as expensive as you think they are.. unless you wanted canted valve ETP aftermarket castings.. but myself, taking the cheaper route, was definately not "wrong" I didn't skimp on any parts, I just didn't go all out. My entire transformation from stock to H/C/I Ls1 has cost me under 6000 so far, including clutch, oil pump, intake, lifters, all bolts and gaskets, pushrods, heads, cam, exhaust, lid, fluids, etc.. Rims and tires are going to push me to 7k, and when the rear end finally breaks it will be 9k+. Then of course I need a forged shortblock (2500) so I can spray a 200 Direct Port (1500)... Yeah.. I guess it never ends..

not if he went with a small cam and some ported stock castings. a big cam and aftermarket TFS or AFR's of course are going to make a ton more. you don't understand performance enough to make that claim. 420 at the wheels with a small H/C package would be great for a 346 cubic inch motor.

The LSX engines were machined with the tightest factory tolerances ever used by GM. Every engine is nearly identical to the next. A "factory freak" MIGHT have 5-10 more HP at the most than a factory standard. In the old days with less quality control you might get a car that had slightly bigger cam lobes matched with heads that were cut a bit too much and bumped your compression. Those differences resulted in 30hp+ differences. It is just not the case today. If you want a "Factory Freak" nowadays the closest you're going to come is ordering a basemodel stripper.
