the flames are from the als system. its anti lag for the turbo. in the very beginning of the video you can hear him turn the als system on when it goes from a smooth to rough sound. when he lets off between the gears the als retards the ign timing and dumps fuel in the cylinders basically to create an explosion in the exhaust system to keep the turbo spooled up. so when he gets into next gear there is no turbo lag.

I gaurantee if you put the same mods on a domestic. This car will turn into burnt rice.
