The Pontiac V8 design differs from other manufacturers' designs in that the external dimensions of each engine, from 326 - 455 in³ displacement, is identical. The displacement is determined internally with changes to the bore and stroke; therefore, there is no "big block" Pontiac engine. The 455 was used through 1976. -- No I don't believe everything available on Wiki but this is simply information I already knew. Take care and safe racing.

and i forgot, both camaros and firebirds (though lots were mislead by speed tv) were never muscle, but pony cars to compete with ford in the pony cup for marketing and bragging rights because mustangs got so quickly popular. And no offense to ford guys but the HENCE HOW IT GOT ITS NAME, the trans am won the series and argument between ford and gm on who had the better car.

pontiac at the time, and in the cars you mentioned made their own engines which had 350-455 WERE big blocks. They later were sued for misleadingly called them pontiacs but were buick and oldsmobile motors. They then started putting chevy sall block 350-400 engines in them which u are correct were small blocks. However this was after the muscelcar era. I had a collection of them. Im not trying to say im smarter or know more than anyone on here but i am a professional who teaches on this and have a career as a performance tech. also corvettes since their initial release and advertised by GM was a LUXURY COUPE! and as far as the Z06 C6, its classed as a super car, as well as theoriginal ZR1 and the new ZR1. They are even tested to earn this classification.

Here's a local site example I ran across a few weeks ago. If the streetfire link doesn't work, do a streetfire search for SpeedEngineBlock and check it from there, entitled American Musclecar - Pontiac Super Duty 455.http://videos.streetfire.net/video/American-Muscle-Car-73-SD_166442.htm

No offense intended, pt. Bad acronymn I used. I have a few examples off the top of my head for non big-block musclecars; 1969 Pontiac Trans-AM Ram Air III & IV 400 ci, 1970 T/A RA III, RA IV 400 ci & 455 H.O. and the legendary 1973 T/A & Formula 455 Super Duty (SD-455) which are known to have the best engine to hotrod of all factory Pontiac V-8's produced. These are true musclecars and none of them are big blocks. A 2007 C6 Z06 Corvette has a 427 ci 505 horsepower engine so that qualifies it as a modern musclecar as opposed to a 1967 427 ci big block Corvette rated @ 390, 400 & 425 horsepower. Since the 2007 will anhililate the 1967 in any acceleration or handling test, it shows much more muscle and deserves it's inclusion, just as the new Challenger does and Camaro will. Kudos on the 8 second car! THAT is fast!!!

no beef bro, im on here for people with the same interests i am, CARS! but i only like facts not opinions. to this day a 4 or 6 cylinder has not made more power or higher speeds in a car than a big block v8. I like imports also but for a different reason, and your buick is the cousin to the car i now race, i like those too! no beef bro im just VERY factual.

60's or early 70's hence the musclecar era. my mind is open but i know even though i run 8's in the 1/4 in an american car with a v8 doesnt mean i have a musclecar. i was talking about the REAL definition of musclecar not about fast good gas mileage cars. I understand your point but thats not what i meant at all. plus look at the pics under the hood of my car, I'M not interested in anything smaller than a v8. I had a turbo trans am that was "quick" and a 240sx that drifted well. but neither cars were faster than a v8 tuned, for the money. check this out, and like i said musclcars are no longer made. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muscle_Cars

LMAO @ performtech - That must be a Monte Carlo G-body instead of a T-Type Buick Regal you have in your picture. If you had an intercooled turbo Regal, you wouldn't be talking nonsense like you are in your post here. A musclecar is defined by a rear-wheel driven car having exceptional horsepower. True, nothing can compare to the "cool factor" of a 60's or early 70's musclecar but it's time to move on into the modern era, dude. I never thought I would own a 6 cylinder car in my lifetime but I have had two turbo Buicks, one which ran 11.41 @ 118 mph and the car still got 20 mpg on the highway. Besides, modern-day musclecars will absolutely SMOKE virtually any of the 60's-70's "muscle" cars. Don't forget the last version of the Z06 Corvette - 11.8 @ 123 MPH and gets 27 MPG on the highway! Open your mind.

camaro35th toyota and honda already meet the target mpg cafe reg. Chevy, dodge, and ford are way behind with all of their useless trucks and suv being built and no one is using the vehicle for its sole purpose.

Dave McCurdy is President and CEO of the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers. In this interview he talks about how the Bush administration surprised the auto industry by moving the CAFE law up to 2015 and why Porsche “probably woke up in a sweat” when they heard the news. He also addresses why the industry is scared of California’s CO2 regulations.
