You know what they say Legion, horsepower sells motors but torque wins races...They can make good horsepower, but you are right, they can't really exceed their torque numbers...but with those torque numbers as high as they are sometimes...do you really need to???

Diesels are far more efficient than gas because they can burn crazy high A/F ratios... but there drawback is that they use compression to ignite rather than ignition, it makes the power a little weird... instead of running with high hp and high torque... they make astronomical torque but cannot rev high enough (in any factory and most racing applications) to make HP because you have to rev over 5252 RPM and most diesels just cant do it... (that dragster does i would bet) theres also the fact that these engine cant make power without a turbo and thats where a gas (or well Nitro-Methanol)car can far out class them... over 2000 HP naturally aspirated is intense...

O'man people's ignorance of diesels is so funny. I live in a oilfield town in Tx where there's hundreds of drilling rigs powered by diesel/electrics and every other truck here is a diesel w/ a chip/programmer and a turbo back straight pipe exhaust and I can still see the stars at night...... Just gets a lil noisy on the streets, that's all. :)
