Raymer knows what he's doing. Perhaps others should pay attention!

To whomever thinks you rev an engine at or above it's redline in every gear, talk to Bob Glidden. He professed in Popular Hot Rodding magazine in the early 80's (for those that have large displacement engines) to let the torque work for you, don't redline your engine before each shift. - Excerpt from Wiki - Glidden retired as the driver with the most wins in National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) history, and he is currently the third most successful drag racer (85 National Event wins) in the history of the NHRA behind John Force (124) and Warren Johnson (96). Glidden's ten Pro Stock championships included five in a row beginning in 1985. Among his numerous accomplishments, Glidden won nine straight NHRA national races in 1979 and was the No.1 qualifier 23 times in a row, including the entire 1987 season. At one point, he won 50 eliminations rounds in a row. Any questions?

You should shift around 5,400K with a NA motor Viper. I shift mine at about 5,200K. The dyno sheet will tell you the optimal RPM to shift at. The car will still rev to and past 6K, but power rolls off around 5,500. Everyone hits 4th in a Viper at the top of the 1/4.

It had ported factory heads, roller rockers and Corsa exhaust. And the reason I hit 4th was because I always shifted really early. The car ran faster by short-shifting it, rather than redlining it.

Vipers do 130 in third gear, this can not be a stock car. He hits fourth gear in this run.
