Wow, there were some funny arguments on here. While I agree with Henessey on a lot of points with the VR4, there is one major argument I do not agree with at all:

1. "90s supercars>new age." Please dude, you seem fairly informed and own a nice VR4, so just take the VR4 for what it was and don't make it out to be something that it is not. The VR4 was created to display Mitsubishi's technological prowess in the early 90's, but was not really meant to be a, in my opinion, "true" sports car. It's a sleek, comfortable, and quick GT coupe...but not nearly as much of an actual sports car as a modern Evo or STI. Jeremy Clarkson's Top Gear review quoted its handling likeness as "...like driving a whale." I say sports car, because that is what is exemplified in the Evo and STI...no frills, just all out performance marketed for enthusiasts. The 90's Japanese supercars died because they were overengineered, overpriced, and marketed to a demographic that could not afford them.

Of the 90's big four (VR4, 300ZX-TT, MKIV Supra Turbo, and FD RX7), the only one designed specifically for performance was the RX7. It had a low curb weight combined with 50:50 weight distribution, making it by far the best handling of the bunch. But it was still not as fast as an Evo or STI and had some major reliability issues. I owned a 3000GT and now own an Evo. I drove my buddy's VR4 many times and had opportunities to really push it to its limits. Its steering was vague and it felt very heavy. He had nothing but problems with the car and spent more time fixing it than he did driving it. On the contrary, the Evo IX is a far better platform overall with telepathic steering, a chassis that tells you exactly what is going on, and acceleration that is unbeatable for the price...not to mention, a far simpler engine/drivetrain layout that is better engineered with a more efficient design.

I'll take a single-turbo, bullet-proof 4g63 2.0 ltr with a 16G turbo and an efficient front mount intercooler setup over a twin-turbo, 6g72 trasversely mounted 3.0 ltr V6 with crappy 9b turbos and inefficient side-mount intercoolers any day. Hell, i'd take an STI with its symmetric AWD system any day over the VR4s AWD system with its problematic transfer case.

Don't get me wrong, I loved VR4s and that platform will always hold a special place in my heart, but you are so very wrong if you think for a second that it is a better platform than modern day cars, such as Evos or STIs.

Lets get it straight, the transmission itself is not the big issue with the 3000gt. It's the output shaft that connects the transmission to the transfer case. You also have to realize it wasn't designed to handle 2-3 times the power and repeated 6,000RPM launches. I have heard of a lot of STI guys having problems with their trannies and they are pretty much stock.

And for the stiguyo4 I have no clue who he is so your right about him being a liar for sure.

Are u trying 2 say no sti has ever made 700 or more? And its not fully built I have a 20g, pistons rods in a stock sti short block, exhaust, intake, fuel rails, injectors, fuel pump, FMIC and tuned. 351whp on 91, 374whp on 95-98 and 411whp on 110.

Hey stiguy this is the "old owner" of the vr4 speaking on the "new" owners name. You are an idiot. You contribute to the sterotypes that are made about STI owners. You can start running you mouth when you make 700hp, not gonna happen. Why would you claim this is your car in the race? If it was you it would be impossible to even keep your lowsy 400hp car on the screen. The STI was running on 110 octane that night with 30+psi boost. The STI dynoed 480 to the wheels. Get a real car

Henessey- Please smoke stiguy and get it on tape.. thats going to be hilarious..i would pay to see that.. all you other guys who are sore losers stop with the excuses of how your car will win at other stuff... so stick to the canyons and stop drag racing and making excuses.. nobody wants to hear it

i like both cars.... but i have also worked on both cars many times and i know that Those trannys on the 3000gt's suck donkey balls. i had to rebuild one without any help from mistu cuz they ask for you to ship them out to them that way they make more money. I got the job done though.
