I just want to say I'm throughly pissed with this 2002 Dodge Intrepid. First I had a used transmission put in by a Dodge dealer because my extended warranty company would not pay the full price for a new one. This was in June 2009. After a couple of days, the car bombed out on the expressway b/c the Dodge dealer failed to put a part on the car to prevent that-it almost got me killed! I paid $5K to repair the car and thouth it was fine. Now the engine has locked on me. I looked at your video of the 2.7 Chrysler engine only to see the same thing i was experiencing. Another transmission and now the engine? I'm not putting another dime in repairs to this car. This does not say good things about Chrysler built cars, b/c I had a Chrysler Sebring convertible that had transmission problems that prompted me to trade it in for this Intrepid. I will never buy another Chrysler made vehicle in life! Especially after seeing this video only to witness it first hand!

I consider myself lucky. Inherited a 1998 2.7L with 9k miles. Afriend told me of the probs and I have used Castrol Syntec since. 102k now...no engine probs. Timing chain complete replacement VERY soon...as soon as I memorize the replacement procedure:) I rebuilt the front suspension/steering at 100k. New struts, stab. links, control arms, inner tie bushings and sway bar bushings. Keeping my fingers crossed. I think for the first time in my life, I may buy a manual JUST for the Timing chain replacement!

hell no wouldn't buy that shit, besides the POS 2.7L, that platform (LH - Intrepid, Concorde, 300M) have a horrible steering design prone to premature failure, inner tie rod bolts suddenly snapping off. Found a 2001 Concord - 2.7 with 51000 miles. Engine has been redone. Wants $4000 - what do u say - buy or not

that's nice, this video is about 2.7L engines, not 2.4's and preventative maintenance wouldn't help most of these people, defective timing chain tensioners that failed prematurely at half the recommened interval, defective design resuling in internal coolant leakage causing sludge, these victims could have changed their oil a zillion times with synthetics and it wouldn't have changed a thing.

My 2.4 Turbo runs like a top and my '03 SRT-4 has 115,000 miles. NEVER any problems with the engine, or the turbo for that matter. Not to mention it still looks brand new. I always use full synthetic Mobil 1, Lucas, or Royal Purple and change it every 3,000-4,000 miles. No BS. Changed the timing belt at 90K miles as preventative maintainance and change plugs periodically to keep it tuned up. I will admit the tranny is crap but at least they replaced it under warranty.

Later years got some improvements that helped, if synthetic oil was used it can help prevent problems, climate also makes a difference. Failures with transversely mounted 2.7L's (in Sebring and Stratus) are also less common, some say because the positioning changes the cooling setup that makes them less susceptible to sludge. As with most defects there are many factors involved.

I have a 2.7L chrysler sebring limited convertible with 80k miles and ZERO problems except fora diff problem due to me being an asshole abotu it, but the nagain I dont live in USA..
