High speed pursuits....Hmmmm!

Ok. Let's throw out the studies and solutions presented by the various departments themselves on the pursuit and apprehension of fleeing suspects. Also, when did I ever say anything about this guy retaining his rights after pulling a stunt like this? I referred to the absolute right to live by the bystanders. Collateral damage is never 100 percent negated, but responsible behavior on the part of those in position is a must and should happen 100 percent of the time. As far as the person commenting on the heli taking some time to get in the air. You are right! However, this pursuit lasted much longer than it would take to scramble a police unit or call in a news chopper (of which was probably already filming). How do you think the officer never lost "sight" of the assailant when he was clearly out of view of the cruiser? Think about it for just a moment. By the way "value" is perceived by having a good product to start with and not the price alone. I have yet to see the product I would even take for free, Oldfart!

That looks like an 03-04 stratus R/T (i think i see 3.0 badges). Anyways i had one of those, they only do 140ish mph (my auto was governed at 132), but they handle like a dream. With that large of a headstart, he had to of been a low-performance driver to not lose the cop before the officer could call backup. He wouldve done better on city streets. Although i dont condone running from police in any way. Keep safe people.

No problem, my insults are FREE so there is tremendous value in them as well! I just get sick to my stomach when I hear people whine that the cops should not be chasing people. You complain that the cop was driving dangerously but say nothing about the idiot that started the chase? If anything, the cop should have just pulled his gun and shot up that loser for running in the first place. I also feel the person running should forfeit their rights immediately the second they initiate a chase like this. Lastly, atleast the cops can usually drive cars at a high rate of speed unlike 99.999999% of the rest of the people in the world driving since they have some training. Ignorance is bliss my friend.

i have to disagree with WOOD6291jp They were near a brdge and the bridge side supports are not very strong so doing a PITT maneuver would be a risky move because that guys mustve of been drunk anyways so the chances are worse for them to do that.... cops do not preform the maneuvers unless they have back up which we could not tell because the suspect might evade the car by itself.....

well vw that was an intelligent argument but when u have seconds to respond and the other vehicle can be anywhere in those 5 to 10 mins it takes to get the heli. mobile to the site you have lost your chase and let a criminal go not good so although it sound real nice but in the heat of the moment it doesnt playout like that

Oldfart, thanks for the insults. And when is it rational to pursue at those speeds and that density of traffic? That's when the helo needs to be involved and the suspect allowed to think he's gotten away. He then relaxes thus lowering the potential of fatalities due to his driving. Yeah, I like in particular the shot of the cruiser following through incredible cross traffic at the intersection. Talk about brain cells!
