the nissan skyline (r34) can be imported through a little known and very little talked about secret agency through Bakersfield Ca. You import 3 modded skylines from tokyo, japan (you cant get 1 not 2 not 4 only 3) modded with your own money) they install a whole new chassis they ship all 3 to Bakerfield, when they arive they transport them straight to Fresno, Ca. and crush 2 of the 3 that you paid for. Then they take every modded part off and they give you a bone stock nissan skyline. thats how i got mine but it wuz well worth the 195,000 dollars

"Import eligibility decisions are made on a make, model, and model year basis. NHTSA has determined that the R33 Model Nissan GTS and GTR ("Skyline") passenger cars manufactured between January 1, 1996 and June 30, 1998 are eligible for importation and has assigned vehicle eligibility number VCP-32 to those vehicles. (The import eligibility number is to be entered on the HS-7 Declaration form that is to be given to Customs at the time of entry, and alerts Customs that the vehicle may be lawfully imported by an RI or by a person who has a contract with an RI, even though the vehicle is not certified by its manufacturer as complying with all applicable FMVSS.)

To learn the modifications the petitioner stated were needed to conform Nissan Skyline vehicles to the FMVSS, you should go to the DOT Docket website at http://dms.dot.gov and enter docket number 5507 in the appropriate block on the simple search screen. Skylines are illegal two main reasons. 1- they dont pass crash testing (like KC said) - the bumpers arent exactly bumpers, they are just a fender with nothing underneath it to absorb an impact. also the frame is designed to buckle in the case of a major impact, wich would help if you were in a serious crash, but not good for everyday driver. 2- emissions- the car fails emissions terribly and the tuning to the motor wouldn't pass either.

you can get them imported legally through motorex in cali, but they were recently shut down. r 32's and r33's can be personally tuned for legalazation because motorex did testing on them and they know the flaws. r34's can only be brought through motorex and scince they are shut down, so you can't get them anymore. the only way you can get them are a second hand buy off someone that already got it through them.
