Excuse me it was $20K for the winner. They mention the event in the March edition of Car Craft. The orange 69 Camaro,driven by Steve Blue Roann,won for the longest wheelie by going 480 feet on the bumper. The driver even had a small heart attack on the way from the pits to the tower to collect the prize but he just needed some oxygen and he was fine. The front fender and the electric fan came loose.
The Gremlin,the small orange funny-looking hatchback,got second place.

They don't do it just for amusement. There's a first place prize of $25K and I heard next year it'll be $50K. The most commonly broken parts are suspension components and and oil pan. You can buy a completely new suspension and oil pan easily with the money for a first place finish.

I think I found a new vacation spot.
