I could write a whole essay on this, but I will try and refrain from doing so. The whole problem with cars and trucks in general is that over 90% of them are purchased to be a means of transportation for whatever reason. A convenience. A tool. So the industry obviously has to focus on that: how to produce, market, and perfect the tool to be the most efficient tool on the market and produce higher selling numbers, including profitability. Between the age of the automobile as a transit device and the global market for cars, the focus on fun driving cars has become a niche. So since there is less demand for these high-powered vehicles and more demand for car functionality, the market obviously has made a major shift towards fuel efficiency, safety, and convenience.I'm on the fence as to whether it's really a good or bad time for the automotive industry, but I do feel it's a bad time for fun, cheap sports cars. Car companies need to get their heads out of their asses and build something decent again. Take pages from the early 90's and even late 80's, the golden age of import sports cars, I.E. AE86 and first few generations of Evos. Make simple cheap sports cars again. Make cheap reliable RWD and 4WD again with all the safeties and without needing to be a V8 musclecar or truck. Make the car an experience, not a convenience.Oh well, I ran on a little longer than I was expecting, but whatever, I hope I get my point across.
