I went from a 3:70 ratio to the 4:56, but I also put on a 2 inch larger dia. tire. So it more like goin up to a 4:30 ratio. The main differance is in the bottom end. It has more of that throw you back in the seat feeling.

How much of a difference did you feel when you put that 4:56 gear in the back? I have a 1989 chevy c1500 with a l98 motor in it and i was thinking about puting that gear in it.

The Tranny is a 700-R4. It was built by Transmission and Performance Specialist is Stoneham, MA. The torque converter is by Precision Industries. It has a 3500 rpm stall speed with a manual lock-up. The rear end has Richmond Gears, 4:56 ratio. The combo of the overdrive and the lock-up lets me go on the highway. It will go about 70mph @ 3000rpm, not to bad.
