I've got an 03' GMC Sonoma with a 4.3L myself. I don't hear a cam lope in the idle, so what is the $2000 invested into the engine? Or is that just intake exhaust etc?
I've got a 266HR by COMP CAMs in mine which is relatively mild but you can still hear it in the idle. If you want to get an idea of the acceleration check out my videos.
