I found a dish piston and tight chamber is best for pump gas, and a solid roller cam will help. My heads are 56cc and pistons have a -17cc dish.

To me, (someone that has had pretty much every Chevy small block) That setup is nearly perfect for a street/drag car. Afr 220's are perfect for a 10:1 383. 4.11 gears are pretty darn good for that car. Why go with more gear when you have the torque to make up for it. I dont think any gear will "strain" the body on that car. Its a full frame. A 3000 stall is a little under what I would go with but good for the street. A 3500-3800 would be a little better. AND a 383 will beat a 350 ANY DAY with the same setup and same car. I ran 7 tenths and 10 MPH better with my 383 compared to my same setup 350. I do have a feeling that the TH350 is gonna take a crap in that car though. :) Unless its one of those super built TH350's. And last but not least. KICK A*S CAR!!!!!!!

10:1 is perfect. Why kill the gears that can,4.11 is a body saver and thats about it, and that stall is absurd. I am assuming you are keeping the body perfect, do not want to strain it. Nice ride. Those heads are feeding alot, 220 is not too big, except for the infamous crack it gives the head. Old setup there (for my age group anyway)!
The 383 wasn't all that good until big heads and maybe more than 10:1. I saw a 10.2:1 and it strangely made a big difference on the 383, and it didn't have the 202 fuelies.Has anyone perfected this engine for true performance? Even the hot rod magazines I read when this was launched mainstream wasn't impressive enough to leave the 350 alone and do the same.Hide that nice car it doesn't deserve even a nostalgic ride on the track!
