My name is Tom I am 23 and I own a 1990 Corvette ZR-1. This is the second Corvette I have owned my first was a 1984 Corvette with the CrossFire injection V-8.
I enjoy all kinds of cars just because I own a Chevy does not mean that I do not like Fords. My hat goes off the SVT Cobra mmm mmm mmm oh so sweet of a car.
So a little information about my car... It has s 5.7 4 cam 32 valve LT5 motor in it. The motor was developed by lotus and was built at the Mecury Marine plant. The reason that it was built there instead of anywhere else was the fact that Mercury Marine was the only plant in the U.S that could make a aluminun Block at the time.
The car put out 375hp from 1990 to 1992. Than in 1993 to 1995 the power curve jumped from 375hp to 405hp. The car was capable of speeds of 180+ MPH and could Zero to sixty in just 4.5 seconds.
Not to many people know of the Corvette ZR-1. Its a very rare Corvette because of the fact that it was so expensive back in the day. the car was selling for 60K thats about 32K over the standard Corvette and that is equivalent to about 90K today.
But there have been records of the car being sold for over 100K just so that people could get their hands on it.
The car was expected to be a investmant by those who paid so much for. Expecting that the car would sell for hundreds of thousands of dollers in the future. Well that all came crashing down when GM made the decision to make all the Corvettes share that bubble back end with the squarcle tail lights. Plus with introduction of the LT-1 the power of the ZR-1 was not far greater than that of the standard Corvette. So sales dropped and the cars sat in lots collection dust.
To me this car is A amazing automobile it is fun fast and has one of the most reliable motors ever built in America! So If you ever see that bubble back end with a high mounted tail light and those hugh 315 goodyear tires drive by you... You have just been ZR-1ed
