I don't really know what to tell you on that one. I didn't really think you could do much wider tires on these cars without some type of tubbing it. I was sort of asking you that question. But cool. Maybe someday I will have enough money to do a swap or something.

Damn. What did you do about your tire set-up?

Magnaflow and Flowmaster are both performance mufflers. It's basically which brand you trust or which sound you like better. On cars like ours if one muffler claims to add 12hp and the other one will add 9hp you won't notice the performance difference between a few hp like that. I would suggest if those are the two you are choosing between... go with the sound you like better.

Yep and I love the sound. But I just have 2" or 2 1/2" steel pipes coming out of the muffler so it doesn't have that loud cracking sound you get from the bigger thin chrome tips. I like the sound of mine coming from the steel pipes because it sounds good but isn't outrageously loud all the time. For that I got a cut-out.

If I were you, I'd try to find a 350 which has more potential. However, if you're just looking for a few boltons to spice it up, you can't beat a new perf cam, carb/intake, full headers, and if you're willing - new heads. Heads make a big difference in flow and power, when combined with a good cam/intake. Of course, if you just want your car to get off the line faster, put 3.42 or 3.73's in there. Depending on what you have in there now, you should really feel a difference!

I bought one of those $100 15hp/20ft lb tq chips, I added the strut bar across the engine and put sub-frame connectors on. The chip added little difference but the strut bar and sub-frame connectors made night and day handling performance. Don't get me wrong the car rides hard now but it will out-handle damn near anything. I've got 225 tires and my brother has a 1997 Camaro SS with 275's and he cant pull away from me on an on-ramp or curve. I've played with a Mitsubishi 300-GT VR4 on an on-ramp and I out-handled him. So if you're looking for handling then I definitely suggest sub-frame connectors and the strut bar, but go-fast mods the closest thing I can say or have heard about is an LS1 swap. I've heard you can't build up 305's so might as well go for the bullet proof LS1, that's the one mistake I made when my original engine blew.

Manual. Stock 5 speed. I had to have the transmission rebuilt a few thousand miles ago though. Probably around 165,000 ish. I don't know if that's a common thing with these cars but I would almost guess so.

When I had my 3.73's I was running 70mph around 2400rpm. I go away to school so driving back and forth on a 2hr trip got annoying with the high revs just to keep up with traffic running 70-80mph. Not to mention the governor on my car was 115mph with the stock 3.08 gears, so with the 3.73 swap I estimated about 90mph top speed with the governor. That's just my opinion though, if you live in a city with minimal highway driving then 3.73's will be fine. They're great street gears.

that's cool I don't care about the messages. If you're strictly drag racing more guys would probably go for the 4.10s. But if the car(your camaro I'm assuming) has to be your daily driver then go with the 3.73s. I had 3.73s in my car for a few years and even then I just lowered them (or raised) to 3.42. The 3.73s just still felt real short around town, not to mention the highway RPMs were ridiculous. So it's just give and take, if you're building a race car or your daily driver.

Well damn about that message, it was long. Oh well. about the 91 beating a 2001 v6... one of my friends had a 1996 camaro v6 5spd and he ran almost a tenth of a second faster than me in the 8th. His car was stock and mine was stock with 3.73 gears. So I would venture to guess a stock 91 305 won't beat a 2001 v6.

Yea like the person above me. There isn't much you can do to make a 305 motor fast for cheap. A performance cam would give you the most power and torque difference but they are also the most expensive "cheap" way to go, unless you can install one yourself.
I had 3.08 gears and swapped them out for 3.73s and my 8th mile went from 11.00 to 9.9. Other cheap things are an ECU chip for around $100 and claims 10-15hp and 15-18lb/ft of torque. You will be able to notice a little bit of difference after the chip.
As far as headers go, one of our mechanic friends said on a 305 unless you have true dual exhaust, headers won't do you much good for the money they cost.
Or really cheap is to just flip the air breather over so there is a gap letting in more air. It will make more of an intake sound when you punch it and you will notice a little more acceleration, but you definitely have to keep an eye on your air filter because the filter will get dirty quicker.
