Haha yeah, there's a bunch of people continuously congregated there so they can see dumb shits like this crash *other* people's cars! Bloody hell when will they learn to drive - or at least try this kinda stuff by themselves!?

The only reason why it sounds *a bit* like a Supra is because it's a 6 cylinder!! As in, it's the same "pitch" at a given rpm as any other 6 cylinder. Only a big single Supra sounds like this... stock twins don't sound anything like this, especially from inside!

LOL... Diesel... when did that EVER sound like a Diesel???

Faaark me, 9500 rpms! How much do all the parts necessary for these revs cost?

Oh and some decent music... FOR ONCE!!!

Nope, the Supra and Viper and very similar in weight. I would say if anything, the Supra weighs slightly less. And 1000 hp is 1000 hp. I know all about the "area under the curve" stuff... but the reality is, that only matters at low revs before hit max boost. You would obviously work it so that you were at maximum torque at the start of the race. Turbo lag is (ie: not boost threshold) is not a factor, especially when you're going through 3 or 4 gears. You will find that both cars will finish about equal, assuming similar drag coefficients, mass, power, etc.

Hehe these things look nothing like Pontiac G8's (which are actually Holden Commodores). The only reason why you may think they look alike is because they are both from Australia.. but I can assure you, in real life, there is no way you could ever get them mixed up - they look nothing alike! :)

Oh and one more thing, don't forget that what sounds better is subjective. Yes, I love V8's, and they sound awesome, but that doesn't mean this thing doesn't sound awesome. Don't forget you're listening to this on a crappy streaming video on your computer. Have a listen to it in real life and THEN say it sounds crap. This is definitely one of the better sounding 2JZ's around, and I would go as far as saying that to me, it sounds better than a lot of V8's.

God some people here are stupid. Let's run through some of them:"Atrocity of a motor"... WTF??? Have you been living in a shoe? The 2JZ is pretty much THE most tuneable and one of the toughest engines out of the box. No doubt this would have had a LOT done to it to make 1000 hp but hey, it's something different."No torque"... again... WTF??? You CANNOT make 1000 hp at reasonable rpm (I'm guessing in the 7500-8000 rpm range) and NOT make a lot of torque. Most 2JZ's are making 800 Nm+ - most likely more - to make 1000 hp."Dyno queen"... depends on what the car's intended purpose is. If it's for dragging, then 1000 hp is 1000 hp, NO MATTER at what rpm it is. We all know how fast a 1000 hp Supra is. It is FAST. Power will *always* win races over torque... and if you don't believe me, go and do some research. It's a simple mathematical fact.I can't understand why there are so many bloody morons around who put down cars like these, as if they could do better themselves. GROW A BRAIN!!!

jonboy545, you are right about that sound being compressor surge, but there is no way that the turbo actually spins backwards during surge. Think about it, something spinning at 60-100k + rpm suddenly stopping *and then* spinning backwards? No way. That sound is simply the air "rubbing" against the compressor blades, similar to a supercharger whine actually. As for doing damage to your turbo, no one has actually proven this at all. Look at the RB30 Calais engines, for one example, they weren't fitted with BOV's, which is probably why those guys love the turbo surge sound so much! Of course, it's probably best to err on the side of caution and fit a BOV, but I think that running a BOV and tigtening the spring in it so that it goes off only on higher boost levels (say 5+ psi) would be safe for your turbo bearings. Having said that, I just run a BOV that goes off all the time, no matter the boost/vacuum (SSQV fitted to a Supra) and it sounds just as awesome... to each their own I guess! :)

Haha there is NO WAY anyone would EVER put a Chevy motor in a Ford ute - in Australia at least. This is definitely a Ford 5.4L quad cam like starkers has said.

Unfortunately, the coupe doesn't exist (in production) - I remember there was a coupe available through a tuning company, but that was based on the old AU Falcon (which was butt ugly), so I think the coupe shown here is a Photoshop jobbie.

Does anyone know why it was catching on fire, and what the 2-step thing is?

It's not a BOV, it's turbo surge.

Sound to me like you're one or two cylinders down. That happened to me once and the car was rocking pretty badly, and sounded like that too.
